Australia has far lower religiosity than the USA but a lifespan around 5 years longer eg the biggest religious affiliation in my home state of Tasmania is 'no religion'; African Americans are more religious than whites but have shorter life expectancy.

Those with no religion in the USA are more likely to be outcasts and not community minded whereas in Australia even those who tick the religious affiliation box in the census rarely attend church (around 2.5% of the population are in church on any given Sunday) and politicians, for instance, do not mention religious affiliation and definitely do not mention 'God' during election campaigns. There are no longer any active churches in small towns and communities in my state with the exception of a few historic churches which make money as tourist attractions.

Thus it is more likely that atheists are often social outcasts in the USA but not in Australia hence the difference in results.
